While I sleep,
a battle rages on
a soldier fights to stay awake
fights to stay alive
no shelter from the sun, no cool cloth to dampen his face.

While I sleep,
a mother silently weeps
a father cannot help but pace
a daughter cries, daddy's gone
a husband longs to hold his wife.

While I sleep,
safe and sound
secure in my small town
a female soldier suffers at the hands of another
great minds plan, make strategies.

While I sleep,
the world keeps turning
soldiers keep fighting
for the freedom of an Iraqi
for the freedom of you and me.

While I sleep,
lives are taken, without a tear shed
another mother without a child
another wife without a husband
another son without a father.

Victory and losses while I sleep.
